Hello. My name is Janet Doss. I am a teacher in a child development center, and I teach pre-k. I have learned that to be successful, I must learn different strategies and methods to reach each of my students. I know that there will come a time that a student with disabilities will be enrolled in my class, so I have to be prepared. I already use the computer and picture cards in my classroom, but there is so much technology out there to assist those with disabilities. I hope to learn about and be trained on a good part of that technology.
I know that communication with parents is also critical. I have open communication with all of my parents, talk with them everyday, and set up monthly meetings with them to let them know how their child is progressing. I let them know that the lessons that I teach is to get the child ready for kindergarten. I teach them the alphabet, numbers, writing, and basic life skills. I also try to build their confidence in their social skills as well as academic.
